Classic SEGA Music: The Tides of Time

March 10, 2011

Ecco: The Tides of Time is the 1994 Genesis/Mega Drive sequel to Ecco the Dolphin, both of which were developed by Novotrade International (now known as Appaloosa Interactive) and headed by the unexampled Ed Ettore Annunziata. Best known for their uniquely dark style of gameplay, sci-fi storytelling and incredible difficulty level, the first two Ecco the Dolphin games have gone on to become two of SEGA’s most recognizable games of all time.

SEGA Tribute – Don’t Stop Me Now

March 5, 2011

segatribute

I made this video back in 2007 or so, when I was first learning how to use video editing tools, and that is a little more than obvious. However, I feel my passion for the company and their games is very apparent and overrides most major complaints I have with it. I put a lot of love into this for no real reason other than a thank you to the thousands – Perhaps millions of great games SEGA has made that so much of us all over the world have loved through the years.

The song is “Don’t Stop Me Now” by the band Queen. After the jump is the list of games included in the video, along with the format they were recorded on in their correct order.

Puyo Puyo Arcade will be the first Virtual Console release with online play

February 6, 2011

Puyo Puyo, the 1992 arcade release has been announced for release on the Japanese Virtual Console platform for the Wii console. What is unique is that this version of the title will support online interactions with other players, making it the first game to do so since the Wii’s launch in 2006.

Nintendo had originally stated that none of the Wii Virtual Console releases would have any features added, which had been the standard outside of Pokemon Snap, which allowed the player to send their pictures to the Picture Channel available on Wii. No game since has had any other modifications outside of minimalistic sprite changes in some titles, such as Devil’s Crush for it’s use of a demonic image, and Revenge of Shinobi for it’s inclusion of Spider-Man as an enemy.

The Puyo Puyo (sometimes known as Puyo Pop in English speaking regions) franchise is having it’s 20th anniversary this year, along with Sonic the Hedgehog‘s. It is likely there will be more special releases announced soon. No release outside of Japan has been announced as of yet.

Classic SEGA Music: Hey Hey Why Why – Opa-Opa!

January 17, 2011

Fantasy Zone is an 1985 arcade shooting game developed by SEGA. It was designed in a unique nonsensical manner, making a very childish and happy setting but keeping a very high difficulty along the way. It’s unique shop system concepts were considered revolutionary for the time and it was one of the first side scrolling games that allowed the player to choose which section of the level they wanted to attack first. In a sense, with these and more it can be considered one of, if not the first action RPG. However, the music of the franchise which is largely composed by SEGA’s own Hiro who sometimes is also known as “H.” is considered to be the highest point by many fans, especially the song “Hey Hey Why Why” that is featured in most of releases, which is sometimes also known as Opa-Opa, which also happens to be the name of the series’ protagonist.
